Hi friends! This newsletter is (usually) a monthly-ish round-up of life things - what I'm enjoying, reading, learning, buying, doing, thinking about, and more. Today, I’m sharing about welcoming our third daughter to the world.
My next newsletter will be all about this current postpartum season - products that have made my life easier, cozy outfits, baby gear, and more. Stay tuned!
SHE’S HERE!
We welcomed our last baby and third daughter, Daisy James Burdullis, on Saturday, September 21, and are all over the moon that she’s here! She’s our biggest baby at birth at 7 lbs, 11 oz + 20.5 inches long, our only middle-of-the-night baby, born at 1:44 am, and (by far) our fastest baby to arrive — just an hour after we got to the hospital. The entire experience was so fast that I didn’t have time to get the epidural I planned for (and had with Lucy and Winnie!). The entire labor and delivery experience was a quick and wild ride, but worked out perfectly. She’s healthy and recovery has been smooth so far! If you love reading birth stories like I do, here’s Daisy’s full birth story.
On having a third kid
A few years ago, I shared my musings as I wrestled with the question of whether or not to have a third kid. If you’ve had conflicting thoughts about whether or not to grow your family, that may be a helpful resource. I know a lot of you were ‘in it’ with me at the time and that it’s a complex and deeply personal decision. But maybe knowing that you’re not the only one ‘in it’ will help you feel less alone. 💛
On age gaps
Lucy is 6.5 years older than Daisy and Winnie is about 4.5 years older. I remember when Lucy was a baby seeing lots of people having kids 'two under two' or 'three under three' or even 'four under four.' It seemed like having kids back-to-back or close in age was the norm or at least the version of motherhood I often showed online.
While we did have Lucy and Winnie close in age (they're 2 years + 3 weeks apart), that's certainly NOT the only way nor the 'best' age gap for many. I found it challenging to have a baby and a young toddler at the same time (exacerbated by the pandemic and tense, anxiety-filled 2020). This 6.5 and 4.5-year age gap between Lucy, Winnie, and Daisy has been pretty special so far.
I recently answered a lot of questions about age gaps and saved them here.
